How do I get the money from the customer if funds are only reserved?
When you have checked the vehicle is available and you are ready to take the payment follow these steps to ‘Capture’ the funds.
1. Login to PayPal
2. Find the corresponding payment and click on it
3. Complete the transaction by clicking ‘Capture’
Initial reservation authorises the amount for 3 days. We recommend capturing the payment within the first 3 days. However, if more time passes you can re-authorise your reservation fee to check that there are still enough funds for the payment. Overall, you have 29 days to capture the payment.
What happens if I do not collect the fee within 29 days?
The payment authorisation will be automatically voided. PayPal will update the record as cancelled.
Are there any charges?
As part of PayPal there are charges involved. For charges, please see here: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees
We advise when taking the outstanding balance to use a different payment method, i.e Bank Transfer to avoid any further charges.
How do I cancel a reservation?
You can cancel the reservation fee payment by the following methods:
If you have captured funds – You will need to refund the customer
If you didn’t capture funds – You will need to void the transaction
Once this has been done, you will need to login into Autopromotor and change the status of the vehicle from ‘Reserved’ to ‘Active’.
I already have a PayPal account can I use that?
If it is a Business (not personal) account in your company name then yes.
Can the customer pay by credit or debit card?
Yes, the customer does not need a PayPal account to complete the reservation. There is an option for credit/debit card payments which will just use PayPal to process.
